Sara Richman Harris loved people, as is shown in her art dating back 1935, when Sara was in her teens. The selections presented here include a pastel from Sara’s youth; oil paintings of models at the Art Students League in the 1940s; family portraits; and whimsical, primitive/childlike—even humorous– oils and watercolors of her children and the Albany Community in the 1950s. Also are included are a masterful impressionistic scene of Jeremiah the prophet, and a pen and ink portrait of a family friend, both from the 1960s. According to an art historian who recently viewed Sara’s work for the first time, “her portraits show a penetrating psychological insight.”
